Parrot Birds Information

birds parrot wallpaperParrot Photos
In Experts believe that parrots are particularly adept at talking because they are highly intelligent and naturally social. While passerines such as crows are only able to repeat a few words or simple phrases, psittacines like budgerigars have been known to possess a vocabulary of almost two thousand words. However, when it comes to imitating humans, parrots have emerged as the true bird brains.

For this reason, the birds are sought after as pets. Closely related to mockingbirds, mynas (or mynahs) are known for their ability to mimic human voices. For example, the complex song of the Song Sparrow cannot be adequately copied, even by the most talented mockingbird. However, mockingbirds are limited to short, uncomplicated bird songs and noises.

Scientists believe that the mockingbird's imitating calls serve to expand its repertoir, thus seeming more attractive to a mate. Mockingbirds have also been known to repeat the sounds of other animals, and even mechanical sounds such as car alarms. Mockingbirds not only produce their own distinct call, but expertly mimic the calls of other birds. Birds are even named for their distinct calls the Whip-poor will is a memorable favorite.

Ask any child, and he will be able to tell you what sound a turkey makes. Owls famously hoot, hawks scream, and crows caw. Parrots are renowned for their deafening calls that can be heard for miles. Almost every species of bird produces some sort of vocalization. A wise person once said that imitation is the best form of flattery, but some birds take this idiom to a whole new level.

Rabbits

rabbit breedsRabbit Care
Infant rabbits are highly sensitive little creatures. Their young, defenseless state makes them prone to pretty much any form of danger. Mother rabbits seldom nurse their babies when they're born. They usually wait for at least a day before they feed them with their milk - which is why owners should give these infant rabbits around the clock observation to make sure that they are kept safe and sound in their nesting area. Mother rabbits usually feed their babies during the wee hours of the day, starting from 12 midnight until 5 or 6 am. If you want to know if they're being fed well by their mothers, you don't have to stay up all night to keep an eye out for them.

rabbit picturesRabbit Facts
All you have to do is check if the bunnies are warm and have full bellies when you wake up early in the morning. It's one way to effectively observe your pet rabbits and also to make sure if their mother is properly nursing her babies. If the babies are not being fed well, you'll see that they'll have depressed stomachs, and their skin will be dry of dehydration. They also wouldn't interact well when they're being handled by their owners. If you notice that the babies are scattered around instead of being huddled together, it would be good to keep them warm first before doing anything else. Your job as an owner and caretaker is exercised in situations like this.

Animal Shelter

Many people have a deep love of animals. We love to hold them and comfort them, play with them and tell our secrets to them. Dogs and cats can be faithful companions, our best friends when times turn tough. Unfortunately, some people aren't well equipped to manage the responsibility that pet ownership requires. Whether emotions cloud good judgment or someone simply doesn't understand the level of care required by pets, sometimes the wrong people end up owning a cat or a dog. At least for a while.

Shelters take in animals that are lost or abandoned, rescued from poor homes, or from people with good intentions but without the means. Whatever the reasons, shelter dogs and cats need medical attention, food, shelter and love just as any other living mammal. Often cats in a shelter are adversely affected by their surroundings. Even shelters which are set up to attend to their emotional and psychological needs sometimes find that cats which have been waiting for adoption for several months become restless, agitated or even a little aggressive. Part of the reason is they lack stimulation. The small cages don't afford them an opportunity to run, pounce, hide and stalk.

You can help your local animal shelter by considering a donation of some cat trees. Cat trees are furniture items built for use by cats. Constructed primarily of wood, carpet and sisal rope, cat trees come in varying heights and widths. Good cat trees may have a platform perch, an enclosure for hiding, a swing or pouch for lounging, and sisal for scratching.

Animal Hospital

Coto De Caza is one of the most famed planned living communities in south western California. Situated a few miles off the Ladera Township, and a little way more from the famed Laguna Beach, this beautiful location of Orange County has a population of about 15,000 people. Some of California's most prominent socialites and sports figures come from this long stretch of land beside the Thomas Riley Wilderness Park. People in Coto De Caza are also known as avid animal lovers.

In fact, Californians are about the most animal loving people in all of America. To find a good vet or animal hospital, Coto De Caza residents needn't look far. The close by Ladera Township has the most state of the art veterinary clinic in the State. People have a craving for pets in California like no other state in America. People go crazy over their loving feathered and furry companions. From cafes and restaurants for pet owners and their pampered wards, to salons and fashion stops for the four footed (and more); Californians can have no end to pet luxury.

Recently, a K-9 officer (police dog) from Waco, Texas fell ill while on duty. He was taken to a vet immediately for medical care. But the local animal hospitals could only do so much. The 5 year old Belgian Malanois named Torro was suffering from a rare disease named leptospirosis. Currently, he is fighting the disease with intensive care and dialysis in California! Thankfully, Californian K-9 officers don't have to go out of state to get proper treatment! With the state-of-the-art pet clinics and animal hospitals in the State, treatment is minutes away.

Animal Collective Tour Dates

Animal Collective are a peculiar act. An oddity. A sensory sideshow in a world of increasing musical banality. Despite having nick-names reminiscent of a group of children's show super heroes, (Avey Tare, Deakin, Geologist & Panda Bear respectively), Animal Collective have been creating mature Psyche-folk since the turn of the millennium, and while enchanting Club and Festival-goers alike, have constantly been just avant-garde enough to allude any major commercial success. However, 2009 seems to be something of an oddity also, seeing Animal Collective gain a top 20 album on both sides of the Atlantic following the release of Merriweather Post Pavilion. Yet to understand the gravitas Animal Collective yield, we must exhaustively examine the back-catalogue to find the song that epitomizes the Animal Collective 'sound'. Such an accolade must be presented to Grass, from 2005's Feels.

An awkwardly infectious Psyche-pop operation, Grass itself sounds, in equal parts, like 'Mr. Blue Sky' by E.L.O, the entire Bjork back-catalogue & an Alan Lomax field recording, and whilst utilising the both analogue & digital synths along side more conventional instruments, Animal Collective never fail to sound anything other than fresh and organic, almost embryonic in some cases. Grass, being the most obvious example of the band's tendency toward antagonistic dynamics, sounds hurried and anxious, the constant battle between cacophony and melody never truly Passive Voice (consider revising).

Grass warrants between half a dozen and a score's worth of listens before the dense layering of electronic noise starts to extrude itself, leading way to moments of unmistakable beauty and undulating vigour, as opposed to the abstract indulgence conveyed upon the first few listens. Despite the charging nature of Grass, they delicately weave themselves between intimacy & animosity, Avey's precariously uncertain warbling parenthesized by his affection for guttural screaming. This constant interplay becomes extremely hypnotic, absorbing even the most jaded listener into the oddly colourful, richly textured, Animal Collective world.

World Animal Health Organization

Zoonoses say what? You may have never heard this term, but, you have almost certainly heard of H1N1 or SARS or West Nile virus or Ebola virus. Zoonoses are microbiologic infections acquired from animals. Zoonoses can come in the form of bacteria, viruses or parasites. A "zoonosis" (the singular form of zoonoses) is any disease that is naturally transmissible from vertebrate animals to humans. It is estimated that over 60 % of all new human diseases are zoonotic and that over 70 % of these originate with wildlife and people having close contact with pets (especially exotic pets), wild animals or livestock or their food products. Studies over recent years have revealed a pattern of dangerous, even fatal, emerging new human diseases resulting from genetic mutations of known pathogens previously thought dead-ended in non-humans. The increased mobilization of both humans and pets, plus increased use of livestock and animal products have led to deep new concerns for the international health community. Not only the development of new diseases, but also, a recurrence of old diseases is being seen.

Some of these diseases, once transmitted to humans, have the potential to create pandemics, like the one now occurring with the H1N1 "swine flu" virus. Besides causing a direct health hazard to humans, they can also affect the world's food supply by requiring the destruction or quarantine of millions of dollars in livestock. The huge international trade in animal products for food, plus the large scale movement of people through tourism, have increased the opportunity for these pathogens to mutate and cross transmit between species. SARS, Ebola virus, H1N1 and West Nile virus are a few that have crossed the species barrier recently and now infect humans, sometimes with devastating effects. The mutated pathogens can be transmitted via the food chain, contact with infected animals or can even be airborne or waterborne in some cases. The increased encroachment of humans into wild animal habitats, the exotic pet trade and the increase in the numbers of animals raised in close proximity are also contributing factors.

What is being done about it? One of the obstacles is detection and identification of the disease syndromes. Lack of documentation of clinical suspicion and the difficulty in recognizing the causes is delaying the identification of these new diseases. The detection and follow up study of the infection's epidemiology will require huge investments and improvements in research. Efforts are underway through GLEWS (Global Early Warning System) in a joint system aimed at coordinating the alert mechanisms of WHO (World Health Organization, FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), OIE (World Organization for Animal Health) and others in the health community. Much more needs to be done and international cooperation is required. This is truly a World problem.

Animal Liberation Movement

It would take far more than the space allotted here to comprehensively describe the philosophical and ethical debates that have contributed to the foundation of animal law. Suffice to say that although in the law animals are regarded as the property of human animals, yet in being accorded some protection against mistreatment and cruelty, it could be said that animal law has an ethical, or moral, cornerstone that other property law does not have. If there is such a cornerstone, it would be due at least in part to a recognition that animals are sentient beings, just as human animals are. In fact, the Australian government has as its blueprint for the development of animal law in Australia a statement that it is concerned with humane treatment of 'sentient animals', and a recognition that '[a]ll animals have intrinsic value' (at the time of writing this article, it is unknown whether we are referring here to the present or past government).

That's all well and good, one might think. As a result, a range of animals are being protected against cruelty and increasingly harsh penalties are being imposed on those that break that law. Our domestic animals are given today the protection that humans like slaves, women and children have been deprived of at various times in history (as they too were considered 'property' and denied legal personhood). However, there are far, far more sentient animals being denied protection against cruelty than those that are protected; in fact, the extent of suffering deliberately imposed on some animals by humans, and their sheer numbers, makes that moral cornerstone appear very shaky indeed.

Animals continue to suffer acutely in puppy or kitten mills, in battery cages, pig pens and other factory farming situations, on live transportation ships, on the recreational hunting grounds, and in research laboratories.

Animal Kingdom Classification

At least 1.5 million different kinds of Animal have been identified by scientists and more are identified every year. The total number of animals in existence may be as high as thirty million, which means that the task of identifying and locating all the Planet Earth's fauna may never be complete. In order to make sense of this diversity, biologists use formal classification systems, in which all the past and present known life is named and organised into groups. Each type of animal is given a unique species name and placed into the group where the species to which its evolutionary development suggests that it is most closely related.

Modern scientific classification dates back to the work of a Swedish botanist and explorer called Karl Linnaeus (18th Century). He devised a system whereby all organisms are classified by two part scientific names written in Latin. The first part of the name refers to the genus to which the animal belongs and the second part denotes its species; this system remains in force today and is understood by scientists all over the world. As well as labelling all living things it shows exactly where a species fits into the living planet.

In scientific classification the species is the basic unit. Species are organised into groups called genera and these are organised into families. This system of groups continues working upwards through orders, classes, phyla and finally into kingdoms. Kingdoms are the largest group and also the highest level in the hierarchy.

Each of the groups in the hierarchy has a common ancestor, which becomes increasingly remote from a species with each higher level of the hierarchy. Identification of the groups is an important part of the classification process and often involves difficult and complicated research.

Traditionally species are defined as groups of living things that share a set of characteristics and that are able to interbreed in the wild. It is sometimes difficult to determine if a group fits the definition so scientists prefer to determine species by examining genetic data. However genetic data does not solve all the classification problems because it still has to be decided if two animals' genes are close enough to warrant their being classed as one species.

Nearly all of today's animal groups were identified before genetic analysis became available. The groups were established on the basis of anatomical evidence both in living species and in those species preserved as fossils. Anatomical studies can be useful in tracing the path of evolution because they can show how certain body parts have been modified, sometimes greatly, for different uses.
